Conforming to all safety and environmental requirements
Your sludge removal will be executed in agreement with all safety and environmental measurements. Our entire operation is done according to MARPOL Annex V regulations which apply to the Wider Caribbean Region Special Area. The Isla Refinery, where the final disposal of the sludge is, likewise operates in line with these environmental guidelines.
The Isla Refinery takes care of the sludge treatment by means of their own treatment processes. The sludge solids will go through their sewage treatment plant. One example of a process is a wastewater treatment in which the digested sludge will be separated from the organic materials contained within it. The objective to reuse as much material from the treated sludge as possible.
To perform the sludge removal perfectly, we do require that the sludge is properly readied on-board before pickup. During the remainder of the operation, we will adhere to your waste management plan. This also entails disposing of your waste at the Isla Refinery strictly conforming to your and their guidelines.
How do we go about removing your sludge?
Before the removal we need to know the amount of tanks onboard with sludge and the volume of sludge to be removed. This way, we can prepare properly for the transfer. Then we will arrange a rendez-vous position at sea.
For the actual transfer of the sludge, we use a sludge pump and consequently store it in storage drums. With every transfer, there is a supervisor present who oversees the entire operation and properly records all obligated information. What’s more, the supervisor makes sure the entire team abides by the safety measures. In effect, everyone keeps in mind. Lastly, we drop the sludge off at the shore reception facility in Curacao.
Since sludge gradually builds up in tanks, engines and vessels, we advise you to have it removed on a regular basis. That way, it will not be a strain on systems and processes aboard your ship or vessel nor cause any problems in the future.
